Shades of Grey

One of the great things about creating bouquets for bridal shows is the freedom to showcase things I love.  I love texture.  I don't think any arrangement, bouquet, or personal flower needs to be big to be wonderful.  Sometimes its the small intimate details that make something unique.  This bouquet has less than 10 stems of flowers but has a big impact.  A single white hydrangea, a few pink spray roses, a little Astilbe, silver brunia berries and silver dusty miller leaves.

I finished the bottom of the bouquet a little different than normal... thoughts ?

One of my favorite flowers is Delphinium.  It is one of the few naturally blue flowers available commercially and has vibrant bell shaped flowers.   These bouquets were for an outdoor, Winchester wedding this past summer.

Here is a recent centerpiece I designed for the bridal consultant luncheon on Monday.  The ballroom of the George Washington Hotel is huge and in neutral decor.  Perfect for punches of color like this periwinkle blue table linen and orange flowers.  The orange mokara orchids are suspended on white birch branches which are secured in a clear container surrounded by seashells.  Orange dahlias are based around the bottom of the container as well.  This is one of my favorites from the day.  Photo courtesy of Julie Napear Photography.

A little eye candy.  I LOVE making simple, clean boutonnieres.  I know guys appreciate this, because most grooms look HORRIFIED if you start showing them huge rose boutonnieres complete with baby's breath and lots of furry greenery.  Girls- your man does not want to wear that- trust me.  This is silver dusty miller leaves, silver brunia berries and grey ribbon.  Yes, it could be more than this, possibly with a white orchid blossom, but I do love the simplicity.  (Photo courtesy of Julie Napear Photography, www.jsnphoto.com)

A beginning....

So today I tread into unfamiliar waters.  I have read many, many blogs, but have never tried my hand at one of my own.  I can't promise you'll love everything I post,  but I will always try to keep it interesting and if possible, injected with humor.  Why humor AND flowers?  Because when something makes me laugh, even a little bit, I remember it better.  But the main goal is to hopefully discuss new ideas, introduce new concepts, and post beautiful pictures of flowers.
I don't know how much I will get posted this week as I just gained a last minute wedding added to the 2 weddings and 1 birthday party I am already working on this weekend. Oh yeah, and it's ALSO homecoming.  Do I love being busy- yes!  Do I love when someone's lack of planning turns into an emergency- No!  Do I love flexible customers- Yes!  Do I love when it rains the weekend of an outdoor wedding- NO!.   Here's to hoping the rain holds off this weekend for all of the brides with outdoor wedding venues!!  Until I post again....:)
